Are You Redecorating Your Living Room?
Have you been using hand-me-down furniture in your living room? Perhaps you bought second hand or super inexpensive furniture years ago, with the intention of someday replacing it with better furniture when you could afford it. If the time has come when you can finally redecorate your living room, from selecting the furniture to buying home decor light fixtures, here are some ideas that might help you to design a beautiful area.
The Furniture - Have you decided yet what kind of tone you want to set in your living room? You've probably heard that one way to decide the kind of room you want is to picture yourself and your friends in it. Would the men be wearing tuxedos and would the women be wearing evening gowns? If so, you probably want an elegant living room. If the people you pictured were wearing nice Sunday clothes, maybe you want a bit of formality, but less elegance.
Finally, if your vision includes people wearing very casual clothes, then a casual look is more than likely what you probably want in your living room. Shop accordingly. When you go to the furniture store where you want to shop, explain to the salesperson the look you want. He or she will have the training and the experience to direct you to the furniture that will fit the mood you want to set. The furniture upholstery you select will be important, too. For example, if you will be using the living room as a family room, you'll want to select sturdy fabric for your upholstery.
The Accent Pieces - Once you have decided on the style you want, it will probably be easy for you to select accent pieces that will add personality to your living room. Have you considered how important lighting is? For example, if you selected an extremely elegant setting for your living room, consider buying a crystal chandelier. If you chose a less formal look, consider polished brass for your living room chandelier.
If you have gone with a super casual look, think of pewter or unpolished brass. Consider adding sconces to match the chandelier you select. And, when you put paintings and photographs on the walls, consider installing lighting that will draw attention to the artwork. As a bonus, think of having controls where you can dim the lights or where you can make them brighter.
