Do you love the look of a rustic home? If you are planning a bathroom remodeling project, there are plenty of ways to create a rustic, woodsy vibe within the space. Here are a few of them:

1. Install barn doors.

Barn doors, which slide on tracks mounted at the top of the door, have a very rustic look -- this is especially true if you have them made from old barn wood. If you can't find old barn wood, you can use rustic hickory or knotty pine, which have dark knots running through them. Use the barn doors as the main entry to your bathroom, or use a smaller set to encase a closet within your bathroom.

2. Use a natural wood sink.

Making a sink from wood may sound like a strange idea, since wood absorbs water and starts to rot very quickly. However, you can have the wood coated with a special epoxy before it is made into a sink. A pedestal sink made from a dark wood like mahogany will look lovely in a rustic bathroom. You can pair it with wood-like tiles for a more pronounced, balanced appearance.

3. Choose wood branch hardware.

The manufacturers of cabinet hardware have begun to design drawer pulls and cabinet pulls that are shaped like wooden branches. Some are actually made from real wood branches that have been coated with epoxy; others are made from a metal, like nickel. The real wood branches have a more rustic look, but those made from metal are a nice choice if you want something more upscale. Use this hardware on your bathroom cabinets, and maybe even on your doors. Matching faucets and toilet paper hangers are also nice!

4. Work some stone into the design.

Most people think of wood as the most rustic material, but stone has a rustic look as well. It's also a good choice for the bathroom since it is durable and easy to clean. Look for bathtubs made from natural stone, or choose natural stone tile for the floor. You could also use stone as a backsplash for the bathroom sink. It will protect the drywall from damage, so you're less likely to end up with mold.
