Ways A Residential Tree Care Service Can Improve The Health And Appearance Of Your Neglected Trees

If you have several trees in your yard that have been neglected for years, you may need to call a residential tree care service to help you get the trees in shape. Trees add value to your property and they provide cooling shade, but they can be unattractive and nuisances if they haven't been kept trimmed. Here are some things you may want the residential tree care service to do for you.

Canopy Lifting

Canopy lifting or raising is the process of removing lower branches on a tree. It's good to start this process when trees are young, but it can be done on older trees, too, if the branches are so low that they're bothersome. You may find the lower branches hang nearly to the ground or they may scrape against your car. Low branches can also block your line of sight and they can make your yard look neglected and cluttered.

Once the lower branches have been removed from the tree, the space under the tree opens up. More sunlight reaches the ground, and you can see from your home to the street so home security improves, too. Plus, you'll get more use from your yard and have a healthier lawn if more space, air, and sunlight are under your trees.

Canopy Thinning

Canopy thinning may also be necessary. If you have trees growing close together, or you have a tree with branches so thick that sun barely gets through, the tree care service may recommend thinning some of the internal branches to let more sunlight through.

This keeps your yard from looking dreary, and it may help with problems like algae on concrete surfaces, siding, and your roof. Plus thinning a tree can help the tree's health and appearance since more nutrients go to the remaining branches and more sunlight can reach the trunk and lower branches.

Canopy Trimming

If your trees are growing where they shouldn't, the tree care company may recommend removing the tree or aggressively trimming it. However, care has to be taken not to trim too many branches at once, or that could affect the health of the tree.

Times your trees may need to be trimmed are when the branches grow too close to your roof or near power lines. These branches should be trimmed early in the growth of a tree if possible before they cause damage to your home or property. Branches and even limbs can be trimmed back to improve the shape and appearance of the tree if needed, too.
