How Copper Gutters Are Installed On Your Home
Interested in getting copper gutters for your home? It will help to know more about the installation process so that you can be well prepared.
Select The Hangers
You'll need to select what kind of hangers will be used to secure the gutters in place, with there being both fascia mount and roof mount hangers. Unfortunately, you may not have a choice when it comes to which one to use. If you do not have a large enough fascia board or the fascia board is angled, then a roof mount hanger will be necessary.
Determine The Slope
The slope of the gutters will need to be figured out since they have to angle toward the downspout at a very specific angle according to local building codes. If the hangers are installed on the fascia board, it's possible to mark the slope with a chalk line so that each hanger is installed at the proper slope.
Create The Gutters
One of the nice things about using copper gutters for your home is that they can be made as seamless gutters. This removes any joints between sections where water can potentially leak from the gutter material. With the hangers in place, the length of gutter material can be measured and created on site. This is done using special machinery that will form the copper into the proper shape. End caps will need to be placed on certain sections of gutters, which are crimped or soldered in place.
Attach The Gutters
The copper gutters will be riveted to the hangers so that they are attached to the home. The installers will typically use a tool called a gutter clamp to do this, which helps hold the gutter in the correct position for the rivets to be driven through the copper material.
If you have a home with gutters that wrap around the roof, this section will need to be joined together with miter pieces. These are corner pieces that the surrounding sections of copper material are attached to by using rivets and solder.
Install The Downspouts
The gutters will need an outlet where the downspout connects to the gutter material so the water can flow to the ground. This is done by placing a cutting template over the gutter that can be traced, which identifies how big of a hole needs to be made in the copper gutter material. The outlet is then welded to the gutter material to create an opening without seams where water can leak out.
